President Ramaphosa Condoles Families After Deadly Limpopo Bus Crash
President Cyril Ramaphosa has extended his condolences to the governments and people of Zimbabwe and Malawi following a tragic bus crash near Louis Trichardt in Limpopo on Sunday afternoon.
The accident, which occurred on the N1 highway, reportedly claimed the lives of 42 passengers who were travelling from Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape to their home countries. Dozens more were injured and are receiving medical attention at nearby hospitals.
In a statement, President Ramaphosa described the incident as a tragedy not only for South Africa but also for the affected sister states. He expressed his deepest sympathies to the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased and wished the injured a full and speedy recovery.
The President also noted with sadness that the crash occurred during Transport Month, a period in which the government emphasizes the importance of road safety and accident prevention. He urged all road users to remain vigilant and adhere to traffic regulations to avoid such devastating incidents.
The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has dispatched a team of investigators to the scene in Limpopo to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities are expected to release further updates once investigations are complete.
