The Zimbabwe senior men’s football team, the Warriors, are leaving no stone unturned as they prepare for their final 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Lesotho, set for Monday afternoon at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

Under the dimming skies on Sunday evening, the Warriors held an intense final training session that showcased focus, determination, and national pride. The players went through tactical drills and set-piece rehearsals under the watchful eye of head coach Michael Nees and his technical team.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Coach Nees described the fixture as crucial to Zimbabwe’s broader football ambitions.

“Tomorrow is a final in its own right,” he said. “Some might see it as a dead rubber, but for us, every match is a building block toward AFCON 2025. Every player matters, and we are developing a culture of unity and belief.”

The German coach expressed full confidence in his squad, insisting that Zimbabwe will deliver what he called a “marvelous show” against Lesotho.

Although the Warriors are already out of contention for World Cup qualification, the technical team has framed the match as part of a long-term rebuilding process aimed at returning the team to continental prominence. The clash also serves as a vital rehearsal for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco, where Zimbabwe hopes to make a strong impression.

Team officials say morale in camp is high, with a blend of local and foreign-based players eager to make their mark. Senior players are expected to provide leadership, while emerging talents continue to push for places in the AFCON squad.

Lesotho, who have been resilient in their qualifying campaign, are expected to provide a tough challenge, but Nees believes the Warriors’ growing cohesion and attacking intent will give them the edge.

Kick-off is set for 3 PM, with a large Zimbabwean crowd expected to fill the stands in support of their team.

As the Warriors take to the field, the message from their camp is clear, this is more than a qualifier; it’s a statement of intent and belief.
