After Weeks of Uncertainty ZWPSL Votes Out Maningi YSA
The Zimbabwe Women’s Premier Soccer League (ZWPSL) has officially expelled Maningi YSA following weeks of consultations with stakeholders and member clubs.
The decision, confirmed on 15 October 2025, follows Maningi YSA’s voluntary resignation from the league earlier this season. The ZWPSL invoked Articles 16 and 69 of its constitution to formalize the club’s departure, which govern resignations and unforeseen circumstances.
According to Article 16, a member club can resign only at the end of a football season, with at least six months’ notice. Article 69 empowers the Executive Board to make decisions on exceptional matters in line with FIFA, CAF, and ZIFA regulations.
An Extraordinary General Meeting held on 10 October saw all 15 ZWPSL clubs vote unanimously against Maningi YSA’s re-admission. The board cited several reasons for the decision. These included insufficient budgets to accommodate the club if fixtures were reinstated, increased pressure on players as the season nears its conclusion, ongoing allegations of abuse and belittlement directed at both ZWPSL and ZIFA administrations, and concerns about setting a negative precedent for future situations, given the impact of these complaints on the league.
In a statement, the league thanked Maningi YSA for its contribution to women’s football, expressing hope that the club would continue supporting the development of young female players. “As the league moves forward, we remain committed to an environment that prioritises player welfare and fair play,” said the ZWPSL.
The decision brings closure to a tense chapter, with the league now focusing on completing the season under improved stability and governance.
