Social Media Influencer Arrested Over Kuwadzana Tragedy
Social media influencer Josephine Mutongi has been taken into police custody in connection with the shocking incident in Kuwadzana Extension, where three children were recently discovered dead inside a vehicle boot.
National Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest, saying investigations are ongoing.
Mutongi rose to public attention following the tragedy after she organised a community march, urging participants to dress in white as a gesture of solidarity with the bereaved families. However, her conduct during and after the event has drawn widespread criticism.
During the funeral, the influencer allegedly received cash donations from mourners without the consent of the affected families. She later posted a video online claiming she had handed over the money collected.
After facing backlash on social media, Mutongi issued a public apology acknowledging her actions and the misunderstanding surrounding her involvement.
Police say they are continuing to look into her role in the matter to determine whether any laws were violated.
