Popular social media personality Josephine Mutongi has been taken into custody amid allegations that she misused more than US$1,000 raised to assist families affected by the Kuwadzana Extension tragedy.

According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), Mutongi allegedly failed to account for part of the donations that were sent directly to her personal account. National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest, adding that she is being charged with fraud and incitement to public disorder.

“Investigations indicate that the suspect did not hand over all the funeral contributions as expected,” said Commissioner Nyathi.

Sources close to the case claim that Josephine also had a confrontation with a Kuwadzana Extension family after she allegedly used their home address without permission. Reports suggest the family was shocked to learn that their details were being used, possibly as a way for Josephine to evade law enforcement.

Meanwhile, in a separate act of kindness, Taurai Mauka, a ZANU PF member, and his wife have donated a 300-square-meter residential stand to Anymore Muzanago, the grieving father whose two children were discovered dead in a vehicle trunk last week.

Muzanago had earlier shared his intention to move away from the area, explaining that the constant sight of the car where his children died was too painful to bear. Police have maintained that the car will remain secured at the scene as investigations continue.
