Zimbabwe Hit New Low in Latest FIFA Rankings
Zimbabwe’s national football team, the Warriors, have dropped to their lowest FIFA ranking in ten years, following a frustrating international window that yielded just a single point from two matches.
According to the latest FIFA World Rankings released this week, the Warriors have tumbled to 129th position in the world, their joint-lowest mark since 2015. The slump comes after two underwhelming performances in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, where they were held to a goalless draw by South Africa before falling 1–0 to Lesotho in Johannesburg.
The results have intensified scrutiny over the team’s form and consistency, with analysts pointing to a lack of cutting edge in attack and lingering instability in team selection as key factors behind the decline. The Warriors, who had been hoping to use the qualifiers to rebuild after years of administrative turbulence, now find themselves sliding further down the continental ladder.
On the African standings, Zimbabwe have dropped to 36th place, with 1,125.5 ranking points, while regional rivals South Africa climbed to 10th on the continent.
Globally, Spain continue to occupy the top spot, followed by France and England, while Morocco remain Africa’s highest ranked nation.
Zimbabwe’s all time lowest ranking of 134th, recorded in February 2016, now looms dangerously close as the team struggles to rediscover its former competitiveness.
The next FIFA window, scheduled for March 2026, will provide the Warriors an opportunity to arrest their decline, but unless results improve soon, the slide could deepen further, dampening hopes of qualifying for major continental or global tournaments in the near future.
