Dr. Tungwarara Praises President Mnangagwa’s Vision for Investment and Development
The ZANU-PF People’s Conference officially opened in Mutare this week, marked by a keynote address from President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa that reaffirmed Zimbabwe’s national priorities and commitment to economic transformation.
Dr. Paul Tungwarara, Special Investment Advisor to the President, issued a statement in strong support of the President’s address, hailing it as a decisive moment for investors and stakeholders aligned with the country’s development agenda.
“The official opening of the ZANU-PF People’s Conference in Mutare was a powerful reaffirmation of our national vision and the strategic direction set forth by His Excellency,” Dr. Tungwarara said.
The President’s remarks emphasized the importance of rule of law and national sovereignty in shaping investment policy, calling for respect from international investors while reiterating Zimbabwe’s openness to business under clear legal frameworks.
“President Mnangagwa’s call for investors to respect Zimbabwe’s laws is a cornerstone of our sovereignty and a prerequisite for meaningful partnerships,” said Dr. Tungwarara. “Zimbabwe is open for business but not at the expense of its dignity.”
Among the highlights of the President’s address was the launch of the Youth Empowerment Scheme, a government-led initiative aimed at equipping young Zimbabweans with vocational skills, access to capital, and entrepreneurial mentorship.
“The emphasis on youth as critical drivers of national development struck a resonant chord,” Dr. Tungwarara stated. “By equipping them with skills, capital, and mentorship, we are securing the future of Zimbabwe.”
Dr. Tungwarara also welcomed the President’s firm position on corruption, echoing the call for accountability and integrity in both public and private sectors.
“The President’s uncompromising stance ‘Corruption has no place in Zimbabwe’ must be echoed across all sectors,” he said. “Investors must know that Zimbabwe is a safe and principled destination for their capital.”
Referencing the President’s remark, “Nyika haitongwe pasocial media” (“A country is not governed on social media”), Dr. Tungwarara reinforced the need for focus on real-world solutions and substantive nation-building.
“While digital platforms have their place, the real work of development happens in our communities, our institutions, and our policies,” he noted. “We
must remain focused on
tangible progress, not virtual posturing.”
Concluding his statement, Dr. Tungwarara described the opening of the People’s Conference as “a moment of reflection, learning, and renewed commitment to building a prosperous Zimbabwe.”
The conference continues in Mutare, with key sessions focusing on economic revitalization, youth empowerment, infrastructure development, and preparations for achieving Vision 2030, the government’s long-term development blueprint.
