Highlanders Fully Fit Ahead of Chibuku Super Cup Semifinal Clash With Dynamos

Highlanders coach Pieter De Jongh says his side is in top shape and mentally ready for their blockbuster Chibuku Super Cup semifinal against bitter rivals Dynamos, set for Sunday at Rufaro Stadium.

The match marks the second meeting between the two traditional giants in just seven days, following last weekend’s tense Castle Lager Premier Soccer League encounter at Barbourfields Stadium. That game ended with emotions running high, and both teams are eager to settle scores in this high stakes cup fixture.

Speaking during a media briefing on Thursday, De Jongh said preparations were going smoothly and expressed satisfaction with the fitness levels and focus of his players.

“It’s another big game in just one week,” said De Jongh. “The good thing is that everyone is available, no injuries, no suspensions. We’ll have our final training sessions today and tomorrow, then travel to Harare on Saturday. The mood in camp is very good, and we’ll do everything possible to reach the final.”

The Dutch coach, who has previously guided Bosso to cup success, emphasised the importance of maintaining discipline and focus, noting that such fixtures often demand mental strength as much as tactical execution.

“We respect Dynamos, but we’re focused on our own game plan. These are the types of matches that define players and teams, and I believe my boys are ready to rise to the occasion,” he added.

Meanwhile, defending champions Dynamos will head into the semifinal with key absentees. Midfielder Denver Mukamba and forward Jairos Kasondo are both suspended, dealing a significant blow to the Harare giants’ attacking options.

Despite the setback, Dynamos are expected to put up a strong fight as they seek to retain the trophy they won last season.

Sunday’s clash is expected to draw a massive crowd at Rufaro Stadium, with fans anticipating another heated installment of Zimbabwe’s most storied football rivalry. The winner will advance to the Chibuku Super Cup final, edging closer to silverware and a possible ticket to continental football.
