VP Mohadi Honoured with GZU Doctorate
Vice President Retired Colonel Kembo C.D. Mohadi has been awarded an Honorary Doctor of Social Sciences in Leadership (Honoris Causa) by Great Zimbabwe University (GZU). The recognition celebrates his significant contributions to Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle and his long-standing dedication to public service since independence.
The honour was bestowed during GZU’s 19th graduation ceremony held on Friday, which was presided over by the Chancellor of all State Universities, President Mnangagwa. During the event, a total of 3,477 students graduated across various academic fields 2,498 undergraduates and 979 postgraduates. Women made up 61 percent of the graduates, demonstrating increasing female participation in higher education.
The university also produced 315 graduates in STEM fields, reinforcing its commitment to advancing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics in line with Zimbabwe’s national development goals. GZU’s international presence was also highlighted, with 187 students from countries such as Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Namibia, Sierra Leone, and Zambia receiving their qualifications. Additionally, 11 graduates with disabilities were celebrated for their achievements, showcasing the university’s inclusive approach to education.
Outstanding academic performers were also honoured 56 students received the Vice Chancellor’s Prize for attaining distinctions, while six were awarded the Chancellor’s Award for exceptional excellence. Furthermore, seven students earned Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in various disciplines.
