The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has applauded a community driven initiative that saw the donation of a borehole and full football kits to Seke 7 Primary School in Chitungwiza, a move hailed as a boost for grassroots sport and community development.

The gesture was led by former Darryn T player and Seke 7 alumnus, Frank Nematombo, who returned to his former school to give back through projects aimed at improving both education and sport.

ZIFA President Nqobile Magwizi, represented by Jacob Chavungama, described the event as a true reflection of what football development should look like at the grassroots.

“Every national player starts somewhere — on a dusty school pitch, guided by passion and community support. This initiative aligns with our vision to nurture talent from the ground up,” said Chavungama.

The Ministry of Sport, represented by Mr. Chikono, also praised the donation, calling it “a model example of how sport can drive community upliftment.”

Beyond sports, the borehole addresses a long-standing challenge of water shortages at the school, improving sanitation and sustaining the football pitch.

Seke 7 Primary Head, Mr. Marozva, expressed gratitude, saying the donation had brought “joy, pride, and renewed hope” to learners.

ZIFA said it remains committed to strengthening grassroots partnerships and promoting football as a tool for community empowerment across the country.
