Minister Rwodzi Salutes SJI Sisters for Upholding Ubuntu Values at Culture Night Fundraiser

Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Hon. Barbara Rwodzi, graced the Sisters of the Child Jesus (SJI) Gweru Diocese Culture Night Fundraising Dinner, held at Sunset Gardens in Gweru, following an invitation from the Sisters.
The fundraising event was aimed at supporting the construction of a new Old People’s House for the SJI Sisters at Driefontein Mission.
In her remarks, Minister Rwodzi praised the Sisters for their dedication to community service, describing them as true ambassadors of Unhu/Ubuntu, who devote their lives to helping others.
She commended their role in caring for the elderly and their continued commitment to educating children through the country’s mission schools, where they instill both academic excellence and strong moral values.
“The Sisters of the Child Jesus are a shining example of Ubuntu in action. Their love and sacrifice strengthen the social fabric of our nation and promote compassion, unity, and cultural pride within our communities,” said Minister Rwodzi.
The Minister also noted that community-driven efforts such as these play a significant role in promoting social harmony and cultural preservation, which are key pillars of Zimbabwe’s tourism and development agenda.
The Bishop of Gweru Diocese, Right Reverend Fr. Rudolf Nyandoro, also spoke at the event, urging congregants and stakeholders to support the project aimed at building a new home for the aged Sisters. He expressed appreciation to Minister Rwodzi for her consistent support of the Catholic Church’s social initiatives and developmental work across the country.
The lively evening featured traditional performances, including the energetic Chinyambera Dance, a cultural fashion showcase, and servings of authentic Zimbabwean dishes, celebrating the nation’s diverse heritage. The event successfully combined culture and tourism, creating a night of unity, pride, and celebration of Zimbabwean identity.
