HERENTALS HIT WITH HEAVY SANCTIONS AFTER VIOLENT CONDUCT AT RUFARO
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) Disciplinary Committee has handed down tough sanctions on Herentals FC and two of their security officials following acts of violence during a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match against CAPS United at Rufaro Stadium on September 13, 2025.
Herentals FC pleaded guilty to breaching PSL rules after one of their security officers assaulted a fan in the VVIP section, while another attacked a police officer who was making an arrest after the match.
In its ruling, the Disciplinary Committee expressed deep concern over Herentals’ growing reputation for indiscipline, noting that the club has become a “repeat offender,” with its officials, particularly Paradzai Afa and Tairos Ngoma, frequently involved in violent incidents. The Committee said previous penalties had failed to reform the club’s behaviour.
As a result, Herentals FC has been fined US$5,000, while Afa and Ngoma have been banned from performing any official duties during PSL matches for the next three seasons. The club will also play its next three home games behind closed doors, starting with their Matchday 32 fixture against Yadah FC. Only accredited personnel will be allowed entry.
In a statement, PSL Communications and Media Liaison Officer Kudzai Bare reaffirmed the league’s zero tolerance stance on violence, urging clubs to ensure their staff are properly trained and adhere to the code of conduct.
“The PSL remains committed to upholding safety and security in football. Clubs must take responsibility for the conduct of their officials and ensure discipline both on and off the pitch,” said Bare.
The latest ruling sends a strong warning to clubs and officials across the league that misconduct and violent behaviour will not be tolerated as the PSL continues efforts to preserve the integrity and safety of the local game.
