Zimpost Set for Five-Year Digital Revamp
The Government has directed Zimpost to overhaul its operations and shift aggressively toward digital services under its next strategic plan, Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Tatenda Mavetera, said.
Speaking at the official opening of Zimpost’s 2026–2030 Strategic Planning Workshop at the TelOne Centre for Learning in Harare, Mavetera said the postal company must modernise and adopt emerging technologies to remain relevant and competitive.
“The 2026–2030 Strategic Plan must be anchored on innovation, digitalisation, customer-centricity and operational efficiency,” Mavetera said.
“This will ensure Zimpost remains relevant, competitive and impactful in this digital era.”
Minister Mavetera said the postal sector has shifted globally from traditional mail to ecommerce, logistics, financial inclusion and digital communication services, and Zimbabwe is expected to follow the same trend.
The Minister said Zimpost must incorporate artificial intelligence to automate processes, improve parcel tracking, enhance cybersecurity and strengthen logistics.
She said using intelligent systems would enable the organisation to deliver “smarter, faster and more responsive services.”
Minister Mavetera also announced that the Government is developing a new Postal Policy Framework aimed at modernising the sector and aligning it with digital transformation efforts.
The policy will address service diversification, infrastructure sharing and digital inclusion.
The Minister highlighted that Zimpost will play a key role in advancing Vision 2030, which targets an upper middle-income economy within five years.
She said Zimpost’s nationwide network positions it to support e-commerce growth, financial services, and digital access in urban and remote communities.
Government is expanding broadband infrastructure and rolling out a National Digital Skills Training Programme, targeting youths, women and rural citizens.
Under the Presidential Internet Scheme, post offices will serve as community internet access hubs, enabling access to e-learning and e-government services.
Zimpost is also expected to support the ongoing e-government programme by providing frontline service points for bill payments, registrations and licence renewals.
“Let us commit ourselves to turning plans into measurable results,” Mavetera said, formally declaring the workshop open.
Zimpost board members, senior government officials and management attended the event.
