Zimbabwe international Knowledge Musona has been slapped with a heavy fine by FIFA following his red card during the 2026 World Cup Qualifier between Zimbabwe and South Africa played at Moses Mabhida Stadium in October.

The Warriors captain was dismissed in the 64th minute after picking up a second yellow card for unsporting conduct. FIFA later cited him under Article 14 and Article 14.1(b) of its Disciplinary Code, which addresses misconduct of players and officials, particularly unsporting behaviour towards an opponent or any other person apart from the match officials.

As a result, the 35 year old forward has been fined 5,000 Swiss francs, roughly USD6,200  and handed a one-match suspension. Musona served the ban in Zimbabwe’s next qualifier against Lesotho, which took place during the same international window.

FIFA also took action against South African defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi, imposing a similar fine for his late game altercation with Warriors winger Tawanda Maswanhise in stoppage time. Mbokazi was shown a red card following a heated tussle with the young Zimbabwean attacker.

The sanctions come as part of FIFA’s continued crackdown on player misconduct during the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifiers.
