Dynamos Escape Kit Crisis After Post-Match Theft Drama at Ngoni Stadium
In an astonishing turn of events, Dynamos Football Club nearly suffered a major blow to their preparations when their home kit briefly went missing after their 1–1 draw against Yadah FC at Ngoni Stadium on Saturday.
According to sources close to the club, the team’s official playing kit was stolen in what appeared to be a calculated theft soon after the match, before it was eventually recovered, thanks to the swift reaction of supporters and security personnel.
The incident occurred when club official Mercy Lusengo, who had been tasked with collecting the players’ gear, momentarily left her vehicle unlocked while returning to pick up another item. That brief lapse was all it took for unknown individuals to snatch the bags containing the team’s home kit.
In a strange twist, the thieves ignored valuables such as cash, mobile phones, and the car itself, choosing instead to flee with only the team’s jerseys.
“It was shocking,” said a Dynamos insider who spoke on condition of anonymity. “They weren’t interested in anything else. It looked like they specifically wanted the kit.”
Panic quickly spread as Lusengo and nearby fans realized what had happened. With post-match traffic clogging the stadium’s exit routes, Dynamos supporters and security staff mobilized and began combing the area. Their efforts paid off when the stolen gear was found abandoned not far from the parking lot, undamaged and with all items accounted for.
“It’s unbelievable that everything was recovered,” said one relieved supporter. “This could have caused chaos ahead of our final league match and the Chibuku Super Cup final.”
Police are said to be investigating the incident, and suspects have reportedly been identified.
Despite the unsettling experience, the Harare giants remain focused on finishing their season strongly. Dynamos face FC Platinum in their final league fixture before turning their attention to the Chibuku Super Cup final, where they’ll be chasing silverware to cap off their campaign.
“This was almost a disaster,” said one senior player. “But we’re glad it ended well. The kit is back, and our focus is now fully on football.”
While investigations continue, Sunday’s incident has served as a reminder of the need for tighter security and vigilance around matchday logistics.
For Dynamos, the biggest save of the weekend came not from the goalkeeper, but from the fans who helped recover the team’s colours before it was too late.
