Nightmare: Magaya becomes global ‘person on interest’,police welcomes international complainants
The arrest of Prophetic Healing and Deliverance founder Walter Magaya has opened a can of worms, and he has become a global ‘person of interest’.
This follows reports that more complainants have been coming through from across the world.
Hurumende News have it on good authority that some of the victims were being intimidated, and police have issued a stern warning against such perpetrators.
In the wake of these global accusations, police last week took note of several calls from people all over the world and provided cellphone numbers and a special complaints desk.
” Anyone can freely report and allow the Zimbabwe Republic Police to conduct investigations.
“Victims in Zimbabwe, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, Mozambique, Malawi and Zambia or any country, are urged to feel free to report,” partly read the statement.
It further reads:
“For those victims in South Africa, please feel free to go to the local Police Station to report and have your statement notarised and formally submitted to the Zimbabwean Embassy.”
The police further warned individuals and syndicates trying to interfere with investigations or threaten witnesses that they risk being arrested for defeating or obstructing the course of justice.
Magaya was arrested on November 1 in connection with multiple reports of rape and fraud.
He was remanded in custody until November 13.
He faces five counts of rape, a third-schedule offence that could lead to serious penalties if convicted.
He also faces 13 counts of fraud related to a multi-million-dollar housing project that allegedly never materialised.
The State alleges that Magaya and his wife, Tendai, connived to defraud congregants and home seekers by misrepresenting that they had acquired land for residential development in various areas, including a farm he rented from Dr Gideon Gono.
Tendai was granted US$500 bail under strict conditions.
Analysts said the Zimbabwe Gender Commission was now proving that they are not ‘toothless’ if Magaya gets a conviction.
“At least the Gender Commission is now showing teeth.
“A lot of high-profile men have been abusing women but walking scot free,” said one analyst.
Interestingly, congregants thronged the Night of Turn Around in his absence, and he assured them that he was “carrying a huge cross” in a private message from remand prison.
Legal experts, however, said that “private message” was a blunder on the part of Magaya and a recipe for disaster.
