Harare Metropolitan Minister Senator Charles Tawengwa has called on Members of Parliament to deliver tangible development in their constituencies, saying all legislators have received devolution funds from the government to implement community projects.

Speaking during the ZANU-PF Harare Province Inter-District meeting held on Tuesday at the Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex, Senator Tawengwa said the government expected visible progress across all constituencies in the province.

“We have given all Members of Parliament devolution funds, and we expect to see the works,” Senator Tawengwa said. “They are not using their own pockets, the money is coming from government. It must be used to improve the lives of the people.”

The Minister added that during recent tours of several areas — including Unit N, O, and P in Chitungwiza — authorities observed that many local roads and sewer systems were in urgent need of rehabilitation.

“We discovered that roads and sewage infrastructure must be rehabilitated,” he said, urging local authorities and MPs to prioritize service delivery and accountability in the use of devolution funds.

The Inter-District meeting drew senior party leaders, Members of Parliament, councillors, and affiliate representatives from across Harare Province.

Also addressing the gathering, businessman and Central Committee member Dr Kudakwashe Tagwirei announced plans to drill 80 boreholes across Zone 1 areas in Harare, a move aimed at improving access to clean water for communities struggling with supply challenges.

The borehole initiative, Dr Tagwirei said, is part of a broader effort to support the government’s service delivery and infrastructure rehabilitation programmes.
He emphasised that access to clean water was a key factor in improving health standards and community well-being.

Delegates at the meeting welcomed the announcements, with various district representatives expressing hope that the devolution funds and water projects would bring relief to long-standing infrastructure and service challenges across the province.

The meeting forms part of ongoing feedback and coordination sessions between provincial leadership and national representatives as government and party structures review progress on local development programmes.
