Beitbridge’s Pacesetters Tennis Academy is stepping up its preparations ahead of the National Junior Tennis Tournament scheduled for mid-December in Mutare.

With only a few weeks left before the national event, excitement is building within the academy as players intensify their training sessions. The academy, which has become one of Beitbridge’s leading youth sports institutions, continues to nurture young tennis talent from across the border town and surrounding areas.

Speaking during a training session, one of the academy’s players expressed optimism about their chances at the upcoming competition.

“As a team, we are ready for the December tournament, but we’ll keep working hard in training to improve every day,” the player said.

Head coach and founder of the Pacesetters Tennis Development Programme, Pauline Phiri, said the academy has made significant strides in developing young athletes and giving them exposure to competitive tennis. She also highlighted the growing support from both parents and schools, which has been instrumental in sustaining the academy’s vision.

“We are preparing for the Manicaland Open in Mutare this December, and our players are showing great commitment,” Phiri said. “We have learners from several schools across Beitbridge who form part of our academy. It’s encouraging to see more schools investing in tennis facilities and showing interest in the sport, that’s how we build a strong foundation for the future.”

Established to promote tennis at the grassroots level, Pacesetters Tennis Academy now trains both junior and senior players, creating a pathway for local athletes to compete on regional and national platforms.

The academy’s efforts are gradually transforming the local sporting landscape, with many young players from Beitbridge now dreaming of representing Zimbabwe in international competitions.

As the countdown to the National Junior Tennis Tournament continues, all eyes will be on Pacesetters to see if their hard work pays off on the Mutare courts this December.
