Govt Calls on Churches to Promote Unity, Peace and National Development
Government has encouraged churches nationwide to take a stronger role in promoting unity, peace and moral values while supporting development efforts that uplift communities.
Addressing the End Time Message Church General Convention in Mashava, Masvingo, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Ezra Chadzamira, said churches are an essential partner in shaping societal values and advancing Zimbabwe’s development agenda towards becoming an upper middle-income economy by 2030.
“Our government acknowledges the important role churches play in nurturing peace and unity. As we work towards Vision 2030, we urge you to continue preaching freely and to actively participate in programmes that empower communities,” he said.
Dr Paul Tungwarara, Special Advisor to the President and a senior member of the church, highlighted that love remains the cornerstone of national progress.
“As a nation and as a church, development thrives where there is love. Churches must continue uniting people, promoting hard work, good morals and preaching peace,” he said.
Church leader Apostle Godwin Chitsinde reaffirmed the institution’s dedication to national development, noting ongoing involvement in sectors such as education and agriculture.
“We value the support government extends to churches. We will continue contributing to initiatives that improve livelihoods, including building schools and advancing agricultural projects,” he said.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has consistently stressed the mutual relationship between the State and the Church, saying both have a responsibility to shape a united and morally sound nation.
