Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi on Saturday donated goods to vulnerable children from Bulawayo Metropolitan, Matabeleland North, and Matabeleland South provinces during an event held at Ntabazinduna Prisons Training School.

The donation, made through the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) Commissioner General’s Goodwill Trust Fund, included clothing, footwear, and a wheelchair for nine-year-old Ropafadzo Gumbo from Gwanda.

Minister Ziyambi commended ZPCS Commissioner-General Dr Moses Cyril Ngawaite Chihobvu for spearheading the initiative, noting that the gesture reflects the values of empathy and ubuntu. The handover ceremony took place shortly after the pass-out parade for courses 156 and 157, which was officiated by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Established in 2011, the Commissioner-General’s Goodwill Trust Fund aims to assist orphaned children of correctional officers, widows, officers injured in the line of duty, and other vulnerable community members. To date, 453 beneficiaries have received assistance, and the fund is currently sponsoring school fees for 184 children.

ZPCS management is urging all its ten provincial administrations to actively participate in fundraising efforts to support the Trust. Fundraising events such as golf tournaments and marathons have already been successfully held in several provinces.

The ceremony was attended by the Permanent Secretary for Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Mrs Vimbai Nyemba, along with other senior officials.
