BREAKING: ZIFA OVERTURNS PSL DECISION, SAYS RELEGATION WILL GO AHEAD
The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has rejected the Premier Soccer League’s (PSL) resolution to suspend relegation for the 2025 season, insisting that demotion of teams must proceed as normal.
This comes just hours after PSL clubs voted to freeze relegation and expand the top-flight to 22 teams next season as part of a restructuring plan aimed at eventually settling on a 20-team league.
In a firm response, ZIFA said the PSL has no authority to halt relegation and described the matter as “non-negotiable.” The association maintains that four teams will still be relegated at the end of the current campaign.
ZIFA has since written to the PSL directing the league to submit a fresh proposal that aligns with association statutes and competition regulations.
The decision plunges the domestic game into uncertainty, with clubs now awaiting clarity on how the remainder of the season will be managed under the conflicting positions of the two football bodies.
