Infant Snatched From Six-Year-Old Sister in Gweru
A two-month-old baby was allegedly taken by an unidentified person in central Gweru on Saturday afternoon, Midlands police have confirmed.
The incident occurred shortly after the child’s mother, Faith Jakaza (26), had finished breastfeeding her daughter. According to Midlands Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, Jakaza briefly left the infant under the care of her six-year-old daughter while she went to buy bananas from a nearby vendor.
“When she returned moments later, she discovered that the baby was no longer with the older child, who reported that someone had taken the infant,” Inspector Mahoko said.
The distressed mother immediately raised alarm as she searched for her child within the busy central business district, but efforts to locate the baby were unsuccessful.
Police have since launched investigations and are appealing to members of the public for any information that may assist in tracking down the suspect and recovering the child.
“We urge anyone who may have seen anything to come forward. We also remind parents and guardians to keep infants and young children under constant supervision to prevent such incidents,” said Inspector Mahoko.
