Rapist, Armed robber sentenced 42 years

An unremorseful Bindura man will languish in prison for the next 42 years after he burgled into a shop robbed the victim and sexually assaulted her for more than four hours at knife-point.
According to court records the Bindura Regional Magistrates’ Court has convicted and sentenced a man from Bindura to an effective 42 years imprisonment for five counts, including four counts of Rape and one count of Robbery.
NPA said the crimes occurred at a tuckshop and an adjacent property in Batanai Compound, Bindura, in August 2025. “On the 22 August 2025, at 0100 hours, the offender broke into the tuckshop where the victim was asleep.
“He demanded cash and stole USD244 including a cellphone.
Counts 2, 3, 4, and 5: Serial Rape (Sentence: 15 Years Each),” stated NPA.
The court heard that the offender carried out four separate acts of sexual assault on the victim between 0100 hours and 0430 hours on the 22 August 2025, over a period of several hours inside the tuckshop.
“The assaults began immediately after the robbery (Count 2). During the ordeal, the offender pointed a kitchen knife at the victim while forcing her to show him her employer’s residence (Count 3).
“On 30 August 2025, the police arrested the offender on a public violence charge. During a search, the stolen cellphone was recovered from his pocket.
“The recovery was confirmed when the victim was able to confidently use the security pattern to unlock the phone.”
