ZIMBABWE’S NUTRITION MODEL WINS REGIONAL PRAISE

Zimbabwe has received strong recognition from regional leaders for its nutrition governance framework as the country hosts the Anglophone Africa Learning Exchange on multisectoral nutrition coordination.

Deputy Chief Secretary Reverend Paul Damasane said nutrition must be seen as a national development priority, not just a health issue, noting progress made since Zimbabwe joined the SUN movement in 2011. He highlighted the Food and Nutrition Council’s role in strengthening coordination across sectors.

Regional delegates, including officials from Zambia and Botswana, praised Zimbabwe’s resilience and evidence-based approach, saying many countries stand to learn from its structured system and results.

Food and Nutrition Council Director General Dr George Kembo said Zimbabwe’s context-driven strategies have reduced food insecurity from 56% to 15% and improved nutrition outcomes despite limited resources.

The event has positioned Zimbabwe as a regional reference point in the fight against malnutrition.
