Seven Succumb to Diarrhoea and Malaria

Seven people lost their lives due to malaria and diarrhoea in various provinces across the country early this month.
The Ministry of Health and Child Care, in a weekly surveillance report for the week ending 9 November 2025, revealed that the deaths were reported in five provinces.
“For the week ending 9 November 2025, a total of 796 malaria cases and four deaths were recorded. The deaths occurred at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare Metropolitan Province, Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe in Mashonaland East, Chipinge District in Manicaland Province, and Mount Darwin District in Mashonaland Central.
Out of all the reported malaria cases, 125 (15.7 percent) were children under five years of age. Mashonaland East recorded the highest number of cases with 306, followed by Mashonaland Central with 206,” said the report.
It stated that cumulatively, the country has recorded 154,820 malaria cases and 427 deaths.
For common diarrhoea, the Ministry reported 7,285 cases and three deaths during the same week.
“The deaths were reported from Sally Mugabe Central Hospital, which recorded two, and Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, which recorded one. Among the reported diarrhoea cases, 2,974 (41 percent) were children under five years old.
“Midlands Province had the highest number of cases at 1,277, while Mashonaland West followed with 1,244.”
The cumulative figures for common diarrhoea now stand at 300,556 cases and 160 deaths.
