GeoPomona Boosts Fleet as Waste Management Drive Gains Momentum
GeoPomona Waste Management Company has expanded its operational capacity after taking delivery of a new consignment of waste-handling equipment aimed at improving refuse collection across Harare.
The machinery which includes compactor skippers, sweepers and skip trucks arrived at the company’s Pomona site on Saturday from Beira, Mozambique. Officials say the additional equipment will reinforce ongoing efforts to modernise the city’s waste management system.
The company, which has been credited with helping revive Harare’s long-lost “Sunshine City” appeal, says the latest upgrades mark a major step in scaling up national waste-handling efficiency.
GeoPomona Chief Executive Officer Dr. Dilesh Nguwaya said the new fleet strengthens the firm’s capacity to deliver on its mandate.
“The acquisition is aligned with our strategy to enhance operational capability. The 56 pieces of equipment bring in varied functions essential for refuse collection and waste management. Their arrival pushes us closer to achieving optimum capacity,” he said.
Meanwhile, work to beautify the GeoPomona Waste-to-Energy Site is progressing, with a modern restaurant now nearing completion.
The latest delivery adds to the fleet of compactors, skip trucks and sweepers commissioned by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in May.
As part of its expansion, GeoPomona recently hired more than 400 street sweepers and is working closely with Harare City Council’s Waste Management Department in a partnership aimed at transforming the capital’s waste-handling landscape.
