A Bulawayo man narrowly escaped death after he was dragged by a train’s bumper while walking beside the railway line, resulting in the dismemberment of both his legs.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the tragic incident and urged members of the public who are missing a relative to visit Mpilo Hospital.
“Police confirm receiving a report of a train accident which occurred on a railway line near Luveve Railway Station, Bulawayo.
“On 30 November 2025 at around 2100 hours, a male adult aged 43 years of Rangemore, Bulawayo, who is employed by the National Railways of Zimbabwe as a train driver, was travelling from Bulawayo to Victoria Falls when he came across an unknown male adult lying on the railway line,” said Inspector Msebele.
She said the victim was hit and dragged by the clutch (bumper) of the train for a short distance, resulting in both his legs being dismembered.
“He survived but sustained bruises on the head and was ferried to Mpilo Hospital.
“Police are appealing to members of the public to exercise caution near railway lines, which must be treated as high-risk zones and are not meant for resting, crossing at undesignated points, or loitering.”
