Govt to Roll Out “One Pupil, One Tablet” Programme in 2026
The Government will next year launch a nationwide digital learning initiative aimed at modernising classrooms and improving access to technology across all schools, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Torerayi Moyo has announced.
Speaking yesterday, Minister Moyo said the new programme dubbed “One Pupil, One Tablet – One Student, One Laptop”— will begin in 2026 and is expected to transform both primary and secondary education by providing learners with personal digital devices.
“I am pleased to announce that the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education will be launching the ‘One Pupil, One Tablet – One Student, One Laptop’ programme nationwide in 2026,” said Minister Moyo. “This bold and transformative initiative is designed to modernise the learning environment in both primary and secondary schools by equipping learners with personal digital devices.”
He said the Government’s goal is to ensure that every learner, regardless of location, has equal access to digital tools, online resources, and modern learning platforms.
“This programme is a critical step toward bridging the digital divide between urban and rural schools, and it aligns with our broader vision of building a resilient, inclusive, and future-ready education system,” he added.
Minister Moyo also revealed that the Ministry is collaborating with various stakeholders, development partners, and private-sector players to guarantee the smooth rollout of the programme.
“The future of education in Zimbabwe is digital, and we are committed to making that future accessible to every learner,” he said. “Education is the foundation of national development. Let us build it with innovation, equity, and purpose.”
The initiative comes as government intensifies efforts to integrate technology into teaching and learning, a move widely viewed as essential for enhancing competitiveness in a rapidly evolving global environment.
