The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development has commended the Mutapa Investment Fund (MIF) for its initiative to rehabilitate a 2.1 km section of Kew Drive.

Permanent Secretary Joy Makumbe confirmed the project, explaining that MIF will first remove the existing worn-out asphalt surface, addressing cracks, ruts, uneven patches, and other forms of damage. Once cleared, a new asphalt layer will be laid, compacted with rollers, and completed with fresh road markings.

The upgrade is expected to provide a smoother and safer driving experience by reducing bumps, potholes, and uneven surfaces that could harm vehicles or increase the risk of accidents. Over time, deteriorating pavement affects ride quality and safety.

Makumbe emphasized the significance of strategic partnerships between government and the private sector.

“This project sends a strong message to the corporate world: national development is no longer the sole responsibility of government. When vision, capital, and accountability come together, remarkable results are possible,” she said.

She further highlighted that corporates should view such initiatives not just as corporate social responsibility, but as strategic investments in the infrastructure that underpins their businesses.

“Bold and innovative collaboration, guided by shared national interest, can create infrastructure that stands the test of time and opportunities that benefit future generations,” Makumbe added.
