Govt Tightens Anti-Graft Measures as 2 500 Cases Investigated
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to transparency, strong public institutions and an uncompromising stance against corruption.
In a statement released on Tuesday to mark International Anti-Corruption Day 2025, the President outlined the gains made since the rollout of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy in 2020.
According to the update, nearly 2 500 suspected corruption cases have been probed to date, with more than 800 dockets forwarded to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA). The prosecution efforts have yielded a conviction rate of around 60 percent, while recovered assets now exceed US$20 million.
While commending both the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) and the NPA for their work, President Mnangagwa stressed the need to further enhance investigative capacity and collaboration to dispel concerns about a “catch-and-release” approach.
Government has also rolled out a fast-track court system to speed up corruption-related trials, and cabinet has endorsed the Whistle-blowers and Witness Protection Bill to strengthen ongoing anti-corruption efforts.
