The Air Force of Zimbabwe, working with regional and allied defence institutions, on Wednesday, held a graduation ceremony at Manyame Air Force Base, where 28 security sector students completed specialised courses aimed at strengthening Pan-African military cooperation through joint training and skills development.

The ceremony placed renewed focus on the importance of integrating African armed forces to promote unity, shared values, and better collaboration across the continent.

Representing Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, Deputy Minister Brigadier General (Retired) Levi Mayihlome said joint training initiatives are central to building strong defence relationships within Africa.

He stressed that such programmes allow military personnel to exchange expertise and modern operational strategies while reinforcing Pan-African principles.

“Joint courses are vital because they create spaces for our forces to learn from each other,” he said. “Combining Pan-African values with current military practices strengthens the cohesion of our defence systems and moves us toward a unified African security vision. We deeply appreciate the presence of our SADC colleagues, who have enriched this programme and deepened regional solidarity.”

Air Lieutenant Alois Nyamanga was honoured as the Overall Best Student, while Major Madalisto Mumba of Zambia received the Best Allied Student award. Mumba praised Zimbabwe’s defence institutions for advancing regional cooperation.

“The training we received will significantly improve our ability to operate jointly as part of the SADC security architecture,” he said.

The event took place as government continues to prioritise the welfare of public servants, including improved access to housing and expanded professional development opportunities within the security sector.
