Two teenagers, aged 11 and 13, drowned while swimming in a private pool at a house on Cleverland Road in Greendale, Harare, on Friday, in a tragedy that has shocked the community.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that the juveniles were discovered unresponsive after the incident.
“The ZRP reports a sad incident in which two juveniles aged 13 and 11 drowned in a pool while swimming at a house along Cleverland Road, Greendale, Harare, on 13 December 2025. The bodies of the victims were taken to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for post-mortem,” said Commissioner Nyathi.
He said the circumstances leading to the drowning are still under investigation, and authorities have urged parents and guardians to prioritise safety as festive-season activities intensify.
In an unrelated development, Commissioner Nyathi said traffic police units have launched a manhunt for two motorists who were involved in fatal hit-and-run road traffic accidents that occurred on 11 and 13 December 2025.
“Police in Harare are appealing for information that may assist in the investigation of a fatal hit-and-run road traffic accident which occurred on 13 December 2025 at around 20:45 hours along Dieppe Road near the sorting office roundabout.
“A 39-year-old man died on the spot after being hit by an unknown motorist who did not stop after the accident. The front bumper of the vehicle was found at the scene but without the registration plate,” said Commissioner Nyathi.
He added that a yet-to-be-identified man, approximately 30 years old, died while admitted at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals after being hit by a Toyota Land Cruiser near the Goodhope turn-off, Globetrotter, along Old Mazowe Road on 11 December 2025 at around 21:00 hours.
