PLZ Delivers Early Christmas Relief to Elderly, Persons with Disabilities and Boosts Youth Empowerment

Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe (PLZ) has delivered early Christmas cheer to Goromonzi, providing food hampers to 52 elderly residents and 48 persons living with disabilities in what community leaders have hailed as a timely boost for vulnerable households.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, PLZ ESG Director Yu Long said the donation was aligned with global commitments to inclusion, particularly following global commemorations earlier this month.
“This week, the world marked the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a reminder that progress must uplift everyone.
“At PLZ, we believe compassion is not just an act; it is a responsibility. Our support today reflects our commitment to dignity, inclusion and ensuring that no one is left behind,” said Director Long.
He said the company recognises the resilience and contributions of persons living with disabilities.
“Their contributions matter, and our role is to ensure opportunities remain open and accessible to all,” he said.
Beyond social welfare, PLZ is being praised for helping to reduce drug abuse in Goromonzi by creating youth employment opportunities. Community leaders say formal jobs at the mine have shifted many young people away from drug-related behaviours by providing structure, income and a sense of purpose.
“Our investment in youth employment is part of building healthier, safer communities.
“When young people have work, they have hope, and when they have hope, they stay away from harmful habits,” he said.
As part of its broader community empowerment drive, PLZ has so far employed more than 1 000 young men and women from Goromonzi.
Local officials say this initiative is directly contributing to the fight against substance abuse, with many previously idle youths now engaged in stable, meaningful work.
Community representatives praised PLZ for addressing multiple social challenges at once food insecurity, elderly welfare, disability inclusion and youth vulnerability.
PLZ reiterated its commitment to continued partnership with Goromonzi, saying sustainable development must benefit everyone.
