Prevail Takes Delivery of 2 000 Village Business Units Equipment
Leading firm Prevail Group International, led by Presidential Advisor Dr Paul Tungwarara, has taken delivery of a new consignment of 2 000 Village Business Units (VBUs) equipment to be rolled out nationwide, a move set to transform the livelihoods of thousands of villagers.
The 2 000 VBUs across the country are a strategic intervention expected to supercharge rural industrialisation and push Zimbabwe closer to its Vision 2030 targets.
The comprehensive package includes borehole pressure tanks, complete drip irrigation systems with all fittings, polyester piping, and standalone solar units for each VBU, creating a strong foundation for sustained agricultural production and rural enterprise growth.
Speaking on the rollout, Dr Tungwarara said the empowerment drive lies at the heart of national development.
“VBUs represent the future of our rural economy. By equipping communities with reliable water, modern irrigation and renewable energy, we are unlocking productivity, expanding market opportunities and ensuring that no village is left behind as we march towards Vision 2030,” he said.
Dr Tungwarara added that the borehole-powered VBU model delivers benefits beyond agriculture.
“This is about food security, but it is also about education, health, household incomes and the creation of sustainable, dignified livelihoods. Strong communities build a strong nation, and that is precisely what VBUs are designed to achieve under NDS1 and NDS2,” he said.
The initiative forms part of President Mnangagwa’s broader mission to build a US$1-billion-plus rural industrialisation economy by 2030, leveraging water, energy and agricultural infrastructure as catalysts for enterprise development.
Latest national VBU performance statistics from 2025 show the model’s expanding economic footprint. Several VBUs generated more than US$200 000 in the first few months of the year alone, highlighting their potential to scale into a major pillar of rural commerce once fully equipped with irrigation and power systems.
Dr Tungwarara said the rollout of the new 2 000 units will significantly multiply these gains.
“Once each VBU has water, energy and irrigation, productivity will not only double or triple, but will also create new industries, new jobs and new income streams where none existed before. This is economic transformation at the village level,” he said.
With delivery and installation expected to commence shortly, the programme is set to become one of the most extensive grassroots empowerment initiatives in the country’s history, cementing Government’s rural-upliftment agenda and positioning VBUs as the engine of Zimbabwe’s next economic frontier.
