The Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, Hon. Tatenda Mavetera, has today handed over 8 000 Starlink internet kits to the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education as part of the Presidential Internet Scheme.

The equipment was formally received by the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Hon. Professor Torerayi Moyo, marking a major step toward expanding internet access in schools across the country, especially those located in rural and marginalised communities.

Speaking during the handover, Hon. Mavetera said the programme is aimed at closing the digital gap and creating equal learning opportunities for all Zimbabwean pupils, regardless of location.

The initiative seeks to achieve universal school connectivity by providing reliable and affordable internet services, ensuring that learners in all regions are able to participate in the digital education ecosystem.

“These internet kits will allow schools to fully participate in digital education through access to online learning platforms, virtual classrooms, electronic libraries, teacher development resources and international educational content,” she said.

She added that the initiative would fundamentally change the learning environment by removing geographical barriers.

“In real terms, this technology brings the global classroom to every learner. Whether a school is in urban Harare or in the most remote part of the country, students will now have access to the same digital resources,” Hon. Mavetera said.

The donation underscores Government’s commitment to digital transformation in education and aligns with broader national efforts to modernise the learning system and equip young people with skills relevant to the digital age.
