Government to Reward Top-Performing Schools Nationwide
The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Honourable Torerayi Moyo, has announced a new national programme aimed at promoting and rewarding academic excellence in Zimbabwe’s education system.
Under the initiative, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education will recognise and award the top 10 best-performing schools in each province. The selection will be based on 2025 pass rates at Grade 7, Ordinary Level and Advanced Level examinations.
“The programme is meant to celebrate schools that have consistently shown commitment to academic success and the overall development of learners, while promoting equitable, inclusive and quality education in line with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4),” said Minister Moyo.
The Ministry will identify and reward the top five best-performing schools in the 2025 Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) and Cambridge examinations. The awards ceremony is scheduled for 20 March 2026.
“These schools will serve as centres of excellence and inspiration for others across the country, helping to set high standards for quality education and academic performance,” Minister added.
He also called on individuals, corporate organisations and development partners to support the initiative through sponsorships, awards, grants and other forms of assistance.
Minister Moyo said such support will help motivate hardworking teachers and school heads who play a key role in shaping learners’ success.
“Those willing to support the programme are encouraged to contact the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Head Office through official communication channels,” he concluded.
