Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister, Hon. F.T. Mhona, yesterday addressed the media at Kaguvi Building to update stakeholders on the current state of Zimbabwe’s roads and outline the coordinated plan for their repair and maintenance.

The briefing came after a strategic meeting that brought together the Minister, key road authorities, the Acting Mayor of Harare, Bulawayo Mayor David Coltart, and officials from ZINARA, among others.

“The discussion centered on the condition of our road network and the accelerated initiatives under the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme 2 (ERRP 2),” Minister Mhona said.

The Minister emphasised the importance of collective action, noting that the 2024 extension of ERRP 2 provides a vital framework to continue these efforts. He also revealed plans to launch new asphalt plants in Harare and Bulawayo as part of the national infrastructure upgrade.

“Government cannot achieve this alone.

The success of this mission depends on every road authority working together. Continuous engagement, idea-sharing, and resource pooling are critical,” he stated.

Minister Mhona said the collaborative approach is key to restoring and maintaining Zimbabwe’s road network, which forms the backbone of the nation’s economy and connectivity.
