Seke’s full overhaul imminent as ministry awaits final green light

The long-awaited total reconstruction of the notorious Seke Road is poised to begin, with the Ministry of Transport confirming all contractors are now on standby, awaiting only the final procurement approval to launch the major operation.

While initial pothole patching is currently visible, Director of Roads Engineer Jarawani Kangara has declared this merely the “minimal first step” ahead of a full-scale rehabilitation stretching from Harare to the Marondera 10 km peg.

“The major rehabilitation of Seke Road is a go. The contractors are identified, the designs are set, and we are ready to mobilize heavy equipment the very day we receive the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (PRAZ) approval.
“This is no longer about planning, but about starting,” said Eng Kangara.

He stressed that the current pothole work is a critical but temporary measure to maintain traffic flow while the bureaucratic final hurdle is cleared.

“We have moved from promises to practicalities. The entire project is now at the starting line,” he said.

Eng. Kangara framed the coming weeks as a direct race against the deteriorating weather, warning that any delay directly risks the project’s timeline.

“The coming rains are our single biggest enemy. Every day of delay pushes this vital reconstruction deeper into the wet season, which will halt progress. The window for major earthworks is closing fast,” he asserted, in his strongest statement.

“The moment PRAZ gives the nod, machinery rolls onto Seke Road. There will be no further delays from our end. The rehabilitation of this critical national artery begins the moment we have the authority to proceed.”

The project promises to end years of logistical nightmare for thousands of daily commuters and haulage trucks. With the Ministry now publicly placing the ball in PRAZ’s court, national attention shifts to the procurement authority as the last barrier to the diggers finally breaking ground.
