In a major development for the nation’s agricultural sector, global seed industry leaders Klein Karoo Seed Production (KKSP) and Syngenta are targeting Zimbabwe as a premier hub for seed production, following high-level talks with the government.

The potential investors were hosted by the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development, Prof. Dr. Obert Jiri.

The meeting indicated that Zimbabwe has been specifically singled out by these global giants for its immense agronomic potential.

The meeting with the potential investors focused on plans to establish Zimbabwe as a primary country of origin for global seed supply.

Key to the strategy is leveraging Zimbabwe’s world-class climate and unique “shoulder season” window, which allows the country to supply international markets during critical periods when other regions cannot.

Prof. Jiri left no doubt about the country’s readiness, in this new venture.
“You need not worry about the climate, Zimbabwe possesses the finest environment for the production of any crop you desire.
“We are already witnessing a boom in the blueberry industry as a direct result of our superior climate, which yields exceptional quality and size.

“Our unique conditions allow us to enter global markets earlier and stay later than most competitors, providing us with a significant ‘shoulder season’ advantage,” he said.

Prof. Jiri said beyond our the country’s favorable climate, She also boasts one of the best and most robust seed systems in Africa, providing a solid foundation for any agricultural venture.
“You are certainly in the right place.”

The engagement marks a significant step in Zimbabwe’s drive to attract major foreign investment into its agricultural sector, positioning the country as a future net exporter of high-value seeds and horticultural products.
