Magaya Claims Rape Trial Is a “Proxy War” Backed by Makandiwa
Prophet Walter Magaya has intensified his court challenge by alleging that his ongoing rape trial is being driven by personal and religious interests rather than impartial justice.
In correspondence addressed to Prosecutor-General Loice Matanda-Moyo, Magaya’s lawyers, Rubaya and Chatambudza Legal Practitioners, accuse a senior official within the National Prosecuting Authority of acting with bias.
The legal team claims that prosecutor Tendayi Shonhayi is a committed member of United Family International Church, led by fellow cleric Emmanuel Makandiwa, whom they describe as a religious rival to Magaya.
According to the defense, this alleged affiliation compromises Shonhayi’s objectivity and turns the criminal proceedings into what they describe as a “proxy battle” aimed at undermining Magaya and his ministry, PHD Ministries.
The lawyers argue that the prosecution is being used as a tool to weaken their client’s church and reputation, asserting that the case is driven by sectarian competition rather than a genuine pursuit of justice.
