Warning to Opposition MPs Over Constitutional Amendment

Senator Sengezo Tshabangu has stated that opposition legislators who do not support the proposed constitutional amendment to extend the President’s term until 2030 will face recall.

According to Tshabangu, a collective position was reached between the opposition and the ruling party to treat the matter as settled. He indicated that any deviation from this agreement would result in MPs being relieved of their duties.

However, CCC legislator Daniel Molokele has publicly disagreed with this position. He drew parallels between Tshabangu and former opposition leader Douglas Mwonzora, suggesting the alliance with the ruling party would be temporary.

Molokele confirmed his opposition to the extension, stating his expectation that his term should end in 2028 and acknowledging that he may face recall this year.
