The Ministry of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services has reaffirmed its commitment to youth empowerment through digital inclusion after donating a fully equipped computer laboratory to Igava Primary and Secondary School in Marondera during Zimbabwe’s Youth Day commemorations.
The donation, which includes modern computers and high-speed internet connectivity supported by Starlink kits, is aimed at transforming the learning environment at the two schools by providing learners with reliable access to online educational resources. The initiative is expected to significantly enhance digital literacy, research capacity and exposure to global knowledge platforms.
Speaking on the sidelines of the celebrations, officials from the Ministry said improved internet connectivity will not only support academic learning but also inspire innovation, creativity and entrepreneurial thinking among students.
“By ensuring that learners in both primary and secondary education are digitally connected, the Ministry is actively working to bridge the digital divide between urban and rural communities,” said one ministry official.
The Ministry also took advantage of the national Youth Day platform to engage directly with young people through its Youth Desk exhibition stand. Scores of students and youths visited the stand, where they were educated on the Ministry’s mandate and various ongoing ICT programmes designed to equip young Zimbabweans with essential digital skills for the modern economy.
“The ICT training programmes being rolled out across the country focus on areas such as basic computer skills, coding, innovation hubs and digital entrepreneurship, all of which are critical in preparing youths for employment and self-employment in an increasingly digital world,” Ministry officials stated.
The initiative in Marondera underscores the Ministry’s broader vision of building a technologically empowered generation capable of driving national development. Through sustained investment in digital infrastructure and youth-focused ICT programmes, the Ministry continues to position young people at the centre of Zimbabwe’s digital transformation agenda.
