Harare Province Vice Chairman Honourable Cde Fundukwa yesterday staked his call for constituents to rally behind Amendment Number 3 at the explosive launch of the Churu Sports Festival, declaring the proposed constitutional reform essential for safeguarding the country’s revolutionary gains.

Addressing hundreds of party supporters and senior district officials at a packed local ground, Cde Fundukwa used the platform to drive home the message that constitutional alignment remains critical for the nation’s trajectory under the Second Republic.

“Let us rally behind Amendment Number 3. It is the vehicle that will consolidate our revolutionary gains and ensure that our institutions remain aligned with the aspirations of the people,” Cde Fundukwa told the gathering.

The event, held under the flagship of Zimsports for ED, saw Cde Fundukwa, who serves as a key provincial coordinator for the programme, leading from the front in delivering tangible development incentives. He donated 20 netball uniforms to women’s teams and 20 football kits to men in the constituency, reinforcing the initiative’s mandate to use sports as a vehicle for unity and development.

Zimsports for ED is a nationwide programme designed to harness sporting activities in support of President Mnangagwa’s development agenda, promoting grassroots participation while fostering patriotism and social cohesion.

In a major boost for local sports, Cde Fundukwa announced that the winning team for the festival’s final games, set for Independence Day celebrations, the soccer team, will pocket USD $5 000, while the female netball team will receive USD $2 000.

Beyond sports, the vice chairman facilitated the certification of 300 constituents who completed training in various vocational projects under a partnership with Entrepreneurs for Economic Development, equipping locals with trade skills to drive self-reliance.

He emphasised the importance of integrating recreation with economic liberation.

“We must use sports platforms not just for entertainment, but to empower the youths in this constituency. A healthy mind and a skilled hand are the true weapons of development,” he said.

On the political front, he rallied the party’s grassroots machinery, calling for massive cell mobilisation to strengthen party structures ahead of future programmes.

“I urge you all to embrace massive cell mobilisation. The cell is the foundation of our revolutionary party, and we must ensure that no one is left behind as we consolidate power and development under the leadership of our visionary President, Mnangagwa,” Cde Fundukwa said.

He further assured the community that more empowerment projects are set to be rolled out across the constituency, reaffirming the ruling party’s commitment to improving livelihoods.

“Under the leadership of President Mnangagwa, this constituency will witness a wave of empowerment projects. We are walking the talk on Vision 2030, ensuring that every household benefits from the fruits of our revolution,” he added.

The launch, characterised by song and dance, underscored the ruling party’s continued push to penetrate grassroots structures through developmental projects as the nation moves towards commemorating its 44th Independence anniversary.

Background: Cde Fundukwa, a key mobiliser in Harare Province, has been instrumental in driving the Zimsports for ED agenda at the provincial level, championing community-based initiatives aligned with President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030. The Churu Sports Festival is expected to become an annual fixture on the constituency’s calendar, aimed at uniting the community while promoting physical fitness and economic dialogue. The ruling party maintains that Amendment Number 3 is critical for aligning the country’s governance framework with the people’s revolutionary aspirations.
