Two security officers were injured during an apparent cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery that occurred in the early hours of Wednesday morning on the N2 southbound, close to the NPC Cement Factory, south of Durban.

According to initial reports, armed suspects ambushed a CIT vehicle, firing shots before using explosives to force entry into the armoured van. During the attack, two guards were struck by gunfire. One sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to hospital, while the second officer suffered serious gunshot wounds and was transported by ambulance to a nearby medical facility.

The incident led to the temporary closure of the N2 southbound as police and forensic teams carried out investigations at the scene. Motorists experienced major traffic delays while emergency services responded and cleared the area.

Authorities have launched a manhunt for the suspects, and further details are expected as investigations continue.
