Zimbabwe is making a strong impression at ITB Berlin 2026, the world’s premier travel trade exhibition. Led by the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Barbara Rwodzi, the Zimbabwean delegation has launched a high-level drive to position the country as a global leader in cultural heritage and luxury tourism.
A major highlight of the summit was in-depth discussions with UNESCO Director Peter Warren. The talks focused on commemorating the 40th anniversary of Great Zimbabwe and the Khami Ruins as World Heritage Sites, reinforcing the “Experience Zimbabwe” brand. To strengthen its presence in Europe, the Ministry also announced a strategic partnership with Africa Magazine to launch a German-language publication targeting travellers in the Benelux and German-speaking regions.
On the luxury tourism front, Minister Rwodzi held discussions with Rohan Vos, owner of the prestigious Rovos Rail. The talks explored ambitious new rail corridors, including a route linking South Africa and Beitbridge to Great Zimbabwe and Malawi, as well as a major connection between Victoria Falls, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
To enhance destination competitiveness, the Minister revealed that Government is reviewing visa requirements for several countries, with the aim of facilitating seamless travel and attracting more international visitors. Supported by Ambassador Alice Mashingaidze and Zimbabwe Tourism Authority Chief Executive Officer George Manyaya, the delegation also engaged Amadeus for Destinations to integrate data-driven growth strategies into Zimbabwe’s tourism development agenda.
