Olinda Chapel Offers Support to Street Vendor Arrested for Cooking Sadza
Businesswoman Olinda Chapel has pledged financial support to a street vendor who was recently arrested after being filmed cooking sadza on the roadside while selling food.
A video that circulated widely on social media shows the vendor preparing sadza for customers along the street before authorities reportedly intervened and arrested him. The incident quickly sparked debate online, with many people expressing sympathy for the vendor.
In response, Olinda Chapel offered US$1,000 in cash to help cover the losses the vendor may have suffered after his arrest and the disruption of his business.
She also encouraged her wealthy friends to contribute US$1,000 each, saying that together they could raise around US$10,000 to support the vendor and help him get back on his feet.
Chapel further called on social media personality Ashford Chimombe, popularly known as Ashbragger, to create a GoFundMe campaign for the initiative. She said she is ready to contribute her US$1,000 once the fundraising platform is set up.
The gesture has been widely praised by many Zimbabweans on social media, with several people also expressing interest in supporting the vendor once he is located.
