Police Officer Arraigned on Murder Charges Following Fatal Assault

A police officer stationed in Chimanimani has appeared in court facing a charge of murder following a violent incident that resulted in the death of a local man.
Bhekimpilo Ncube (35), who was in charge of the Chikukwa Police Base, was taken into custody after the death of 34-year-old Godman Mtimba.
According to reports, the incident began on February 25, 2026, when Ncube received a report that Mtimba had been behaving violently in the area.
The situation escalated on February 26, 2026, when Mtimba was apprehended and brought to the Chikukwa Business Centre.
At the time of the encounter, the accused officer was reportedly consuming alcohol. In a disturbing turn of events, Ncube allegedly attempted to remove the detainee’s beard using a knife.
During the act, Ncube allegedly inflicted severe lacerations to the victim’s chin and cheek. Following the assault, Ncube transported the injured man to Mutambara Hospital; however, Mtimba was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The accused officer reportedly surrendered himself to the authorities following the victim’s death.
Ncube remains in custody as legal proceedings against him continue. In a statement regarding the case, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe reiterated its commitment to ensuring that justice is served in accordance with the law.
