Herentals Thrash Agama FC in Dominant Rufaro Display
Herentals FC delivered an emphatic performance as they cruised to a convincing 3–0 victory over Agama FC at Rufaro Stadium yesterday, marking a successful return in front of their supporters following a stadium ban carried over from last season.
The Students produced an entertaining and disciplined display, overwhelming their opponents with clinical finishing in the first half to effectively seal the contest before the break.
Agama FC started brightly and looked organised defensively during the opening 20 minutes, frustrating the hosts and limiting clear scoring opportunities. However, the match turned dramatically after a costly error by the visitors’ goalkeeper.
Attempting to evade pressure following a back pass from a defender, the goalkeeper misjudged the situation, allowing Herentals captain Ralph Kawondera to capitalise. The skipper reacted quickly, dispossessing the keeper before calmly chipping the ball over recovering defenders to give Herentals the lead.
Herentals doubled their advantage just two minutes later when Dreamer Liyeto unleashed a powerful strike that left the Agama defence stunned and further shifted momentum in favour of the home side.

The dominance continued in the 36th minute as Tinashe Mupumha extended the lead to three goals, finishing off a well-worked move to put the result beyond doubt heading into halftime.
Agama FC showed improvement after the interval, making tactical substitutions that stabilised their play. They created several promising moments, with Tinashe Balakasi coming close to pulling one back, but Herentals remained solid defensively to preserve their clean sheet.
Agama FC head coach Mark Mathe attributed the defeat to costly mistakes despite periods of competitiveness.
“Coming into the match, we knew it was always going to be a tough challenge. We tried to apply a strategy that would allow us to compete, and at times we did. Unfortunately, the game was decided by two mistakes on our part,” said Mathe.
Herentals FC coach Paul Benza praised his team’s response and emphasised the importance of the victory.
“Today’s win was very important for us. It relieves a lot of pressure because had we lost, going into the next match would have been very difficult,” Benza said.
The result gives Herentals renewed confidence as they continue their campaign, while Agama FC will look to regroup and address defensive lapses ahead of their next fixture.
