President Emmerson Mnangagwa is set to attend a fundraising initiative aimed at mobilising resources for the rehabilitation of Ingutsheni Central Hospital and its Drug Rehabilitation Centre, as government intensifies efforts to improve mental health services in Zimbabwe.

The fundraising event, held at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) grounds, is being spearheaded by the Office of Vice President Colonel (Retired) Dr Kembo Campbell Dugish Mohadi in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Child Care.

Organisers are targeting to raise US$5 million to support refurbishment works at Ingutsheni Central Hospital, one of the country’s key mental health institutions.

Ahead of the fundraising programme, President Mnangagwa conducted an appreciation tour of Ingutsheni Central Hospital in Bulawayo, where he assessed the condition of the facility and ongoing service delivery efforts.

The initiative forms part of broader government interventions aimed at strengthening healthcare infrastructure, particularly in the area of mental health and drug rehabilitation services, which have increasingly become a national priority.

The rehabilitation project is expected to improve patient care, modernise facilities and enhance the hospital’s capacity to provide specialised treatment for mental health conditions and substance abuse.

Government officials, healthcare stakeholders, corporate partners and members of the public are expected to contribute towards the fundraising drive as Zimbabwe seeks to upgrade critical health institutions across the country.
