The Government’s push for industrialisation is gaining momentum, with Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga touring Willowton Zimbabwe in Mutare, Manicaland Province, as part of a nationwide programme to monitor projects driving economic growth.

During the visit, VP Chiwenga assessed operations at Willowton, a key player in the soya-to-oil value chain.

The company produces a wide range of household products, including cooking oil, laundry soap, bath soap, and margarine, which are used across the country.

Speaking during the tour, VP Chiwenga reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to value addition and industrialisation under the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2).

“Supporting local industries such as Willowton is key to strengthening the economy and reducing reliance on imports,” he said.

A major highlight of the tour was the inspection of a newly commissioned US$6 million margarine manufacturing plant.

The facility is expected to boost production capacity while creating more employment opportunities for local communities.

The visit reflects ongoing Government efforts to ensure that major investment projects deliver tangible benefits, including job creation and sustainable economic development.
